Art Scholarship

Four art scholarships will be awarded each year. These scholarships may be given in addition to other academic scholarships that the college offers. However, recipients may receive only one Fine Arts Scholarship.

  • The scholarship application deadline is NOVEMBER 15, 2017, for the 2018-2019 academic year. 

    Award

    Incoming freshmen and transfer students with exceptional artistic ability are encouraged to apply for a $1,000 Art Scholarship, renewable each year for a lifetime value of $4,000.  

    Eligibility and Selection

    1. Scholarship applicants must be accepted for admission prior to review of their application. 
    2. Scholarship selection is based on artistic dedication and ability as determined by the application form and portfolio review in conjunction with two written letters of recommendation.
    3. Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen or transfer students entering in the fall semester.
    4. Students need not be art majors to receive these awards, but recipients must take at least one art course per semester to remain eligible. Please ensure that this will work with your planned major.
    5. Scholarship recipients will by notified by DECEMBER 1, 2017.

    Portfolio Guidelines

    1. Portfolio must contain a minimum of five works of art, but not more than 10.
    2. Artwork in the following media will be accepted: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, small metals, printmaking, photography, fibers, mixed media, computer graphics, and video.
    3. Portfolio must be submitted digitally as a pdf file using color photos.

    Application Instructions

    1. Complete the online application form. We recommend that you review the application first so you know what you'll need to complete it.

    2. You also must also distribute the Letter of Reference (pdf) to your two references by sharing the link, emailing the pdf, or printing a hard copy.

    3. You need to upload your portfolio as part of the application form. If you are unable to upload it that way, please contact Prof. Kristin Gjerdset (kristin.gjerdset@wlc.edu; 414.443. 8721) about alternative ways of sharing your portfolio.

    All scholarships are renewable annually provided the student fulfills the following: 

    1. Maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
    2. Must be enrolled in at least one art course each semester of the year the scholarship is awarded.
    3. Has satisfactorily participated in the activities of the art department.
    4. Models an example of Christian character and leadership.

    Scholarship for a senior art major

    The Gerald and Georgia Brommer Art Scholarship is awarded to a senior art major. The student is chosen during their junior year. Students are judged on the following criteria:

    • dedication and adherence to Christian ideals in the life of the student,
    • artistic skills in his or her chosen area of art,
    • dedication to art (fine art production, graphic design, art education and/or art history) as a vital element in the Christian life (that is, a sense of personal commitment to the field of art and a dedication to personal growth in art).
