3+2 Master of Science in Exercise Physiology Degree Program

An arrangement between Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) and Carroll University (CU), provides students with an opportunity to obtain both a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science from WLC and a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology degree in just five years!

  • You’ll complete three years of coursework at WLC — or, if you prefer, the traditional four years — then transition to CU for your last two years.

This accelerated program outlines a clear pathway for admission at CU and allows you to complete your master’s degree a year earlier than typical, saving you tuition expenses and allowing you to enter the workforce and begin earning income sooner. Exercise physiology is the scientific study of the physiological mechanisms underlying human movement. In clinical settings, exercise physiologists or exercise specialists work with patients to directly combat their disease using prescriptive exercise, and to improve and maintain their health. Many patients with chronic conditions such as cardiac disease, cancer, or metabolic diseases often work through rehabilitation with a certified exercise physiologist.

You’ll graduate from this 3+2 dual-degree fully prepared for careers in inpatient and outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, stress testing, preventive cardiology programs, and various wellness-related settings that cater to clients with current or ongoing health conditions.

The Master of Science in Exercise Physiology Program at Carroll University (Waukesha, WI)

Carroll University’s MEXP program with a clinical emphasis offers small, individualized classes that put the focus on you, as well as hands-on experience in our unique rehabilitation clinic.

The CU program provides an innovative curriculum taught by faculty with extensive experience in cancer and chronic disease rehabilitation, as well as a reputation of teaching excellence.

Extensive hands-on experiential learning both in and outside the classroom prepares you for future job success. You’ll benefit from more than 700 hours of clinical experiences, including an internship, and the preparation needed to immediately sit for the ACSM-CEP exam upon graduation.

The Sport and Exercise Science Major at WLC

Our sport and exercise science majors learn by doing, taking advantage of small, active, and participatory lab experiences. These labs provide hands-on training and experiential learning opportunities with the same equipment used in the field. In addition, you’ll participate in an undergraduate research project, culminating in a poster presentation. You’ll complete an internship during your junior year at WLC. Our students have interned at locations such as Aurora Sports Medicine Institute Froedtert’s Sports Medicine Center, Elite Sport & Spine, and Providence Physical Therapy.

At Wisconsin Lutheran College, you’ll participate in active labs alongside our faculty. Lab sizes of 12-18 students allow you to fully participate and practice tests and assessments. Our new Sport & Exercise Science Lab triples our previous space and features gold-standard equipment, including a hydrostatic weighing tank for underwater weighing and body composition measurements, Watt and Monark bikes, force plates, and a force plate treadmill.
